Hello And Welcome
Welcome to Kim Smith Photography’s website, where you can follow my progress over the years. You can read about my travels in the blog section or just view my images in the gallery. Take a look at the videos which give you a feel of the surroundings and sounds of the wild, especially the roar of the lions.
Images like these don’t come easy. You have to be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort. Knowing your subject, whether it’s wildlife or landscape, will help immensely and can result in getting an image or not.
From getting up at the crack of dawn and staying to the last of the light (known as the golden hours). To climbing every day for a week in blizzards, high winds, and deep snow to get to the peaks of the hills or mountains, for the fantastic views and amazing wildlife. From sitting for hours in the freezing conditions or 40 degrees heat waiting for that something special to happen, but when it does it’s just magical, it's amazing, it's mouth-wide-open moments.
Welcome to my journey…

Mountain Hare
When the winter starts all I have on my mind is the mountain hares.
Praying for loads of snow and when can I start my journey to the Scottish Highlands.
It’s not everyone’s cuppa tea climbing 740 meters in howling winds and deep snow, but the rewards are amazing.
This hare was only a third of the way up. I spent a while just laying in the snow watching and filming. It wasn’t bothered about me at all.
Lake Windermere
In June 2018 I had a trip to the Lakes and while I was there I thought I would photograph the famous Loughrigg Fell wooden stile which overlooks Lake Windermere.
To my dismay, the stile had been vandalized and was now replaced with stones. But lucky for me the weather was perfect and the sun was rising with a cloud inversion.
I got into position and thought I would try the drone out. As this was one of the first times that I had used the drone I was very happy with the results.
Amboseli Elephants
A small group of elephants in front of Mount Kilimanjaro. I stayed here for 5 days and on my last day, it was the first time Kilimanjaro showed itself. I was lucky to film the elephants in front of it.
